Personal Statement

Videos

I am a three-sport athlete (tennis, basketball, and soccer) who plays #1 singles and doubles for St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, VA. This past season (Fall 2024), we won the Division II state championship. I was honored to be named to the All-Conference Team and First Team All-State.

During my freshman season, I was sidelined due to two surgeries to correct an anatomical issue in both of my ankles. The recovery has been long, but I am working my way back into competitive tennis. This summer I’m excited to play in more tournaments and hope to have another strong season in the Fall.

Medical History

Watty was sidelined due to peroneal retinacular reconstruction in both ankles. She was born with an anatomical issue caused by an extra muscle wrapped around the tendons in her ankles. Each surgery required a four-month recovery, which significantly impacted her freshman year sports commitments.

  • Right ankle surgery: August 2023

  • Left ankle surgery: February 2024

The procedures included ankle arthroscopy with extensive synovectomy, Broström-Gould procedure, peroneal retinacular reconstruction, and peroneus brevis repair/tubularization with excision of a low-lying muscle belly.
